Sacramento Lighthouse, BOJJOVAREPETA (533 212)

Sacramento lighthouse was built to caution against the danger of shoals near the mouths of Vrudha Godavari River during 1863-95. it was named after the ship “SACRAMENTO” wrecked on the same shoal in 1868.the lighthouse is situated in village Bojjovarepeta 25 km from rajahmundry station.
The lighthouse is a cylindrical structure . the exterior of the tower has not been painted and left natural. The inner wall lining has been raised to form murette of lantern house. A wick lamp was excited on the lighthouse towards the end of 1895. Subsequently it was replaced by P.V. equipment with 3rd order (large) revolving optic supplied by M/s .chance Bros. Birmingham , during 1901-02 . The new light was commissioned in February 1902.
When the mains supply was extended to the station , P.V light source was replaced by metal Halide 400 W 230 V lamps in August 1997 which was modified to a cluster of three 150 W 230 V Mental Halide Lamps in 2004 together with integration of direct of optic by stepper motor.
