The powers and duties of its officers and employees
This Directorate is headed by Director General & its Districts offices are headed by respective Director. The officers and employees of this Directorate function within the frame work provided by the various govt. Rules & regulation like DFPR/GFR/FRSR etc.

(a)Decision making regarding maintenance & up keep of the existing installation/infrastructure:
The power/supervision/accountability rests with the Regional Directorate.


     

(b) Introductions & implementation of new project:
New projects on the recommendation of the Central Advisory Committee for Lighthouses are approved by the government. The introduction of new project in a coastal region depends on the needs of that particular region which is assessed through the feedbacks received from various members of shipping fraternity.

     


(c) Administrative decision regarding Recruitment/Promotion/Transfer etc:
All administrative actions/decisions are taken as per DOP&T guidelines in vogue. For Group ‘C’ & ‘D’ appointing authority is Directors in Districts, and AO in HQs. For all Group ‘B’ posts appointing authority is DG. For all Group ‘A’ posts appointing authority is President of India.

All new projects are being recommended by the CACL, which is represented by the members of public having interest in Shipping, Members of Parliament of both the Houses etc.
